Pine Nuts

Pine “nuts”, which in ancient Greek and Roman times were preserved in honey,  are actually the edible seeds of pine trees.  Today, they are probably best known as a main ingredient for pesto.  Cultivated mainly in North America, Italy and China, the seeds are usually hand harvested – a major factor in their big-ticket price tag.  Still, they are rich in vitamin E, as well as pinolenic acid, which has recently been shown to help trigger hunger-suppressing enzymes in the body.
