Known as “America’s favorite nut”, pecans are the only major tree nut native to North America. In the late 17th and early 18th centuries, harvesting and selling pecans became an industry, whereby the US currently provides approximately 80% of world production. Incredibly nutritious, pecans are an excellent source of antioxidant rich vitamin E. Don’t just think of pecans for pie, pralines, and other desserts.
